Con la más grande instalación de resina sintética del mundo, Mercedes-Benz esta poniendo bajo todos los focos el lanzamiento mundial de la nueva Clase G, que tendrá lugar mañana, domingo 14 de enero, durante la jornada de prensa del Salón de Detroit, en Estados Unidos.

Desde el pasado viernes, un gigantesco cubo de color ámbar, hecho de 44.4 toneladas de resina se encuentra decorando la entrada del Cobo Hall, el espacio que alberga todos los eneros al NAIAS (North American International Auto Show). Dentro de ese bloque se encuentra un Clase G del primer año de producción: 1979. Esta instalación simboliza la eternidad de esta leyenda del off road y homenajea al milenario hábito de preservar insectos en ámbar. Como este material, el ADN del primer Clase G también ha sido preservado y se conserva de generación en generación. Estos genes también estarán presentes en la nueva Clase G y las características y propiedades de la más longeva serie de modelos de Mercedes-Benz se proyectarán en el tiempo: un diseño emblemático, su indestructible superioridad a la hora de salirse de la huella y el excepcional confort con el que transporta a sus ocupantes viajando por carretera.

«El cubo de ámbar pone al carácter único de la Clase G en una cáscara de nuez», comentó el Dr Gunnar Güthenke, a la cabeza de los vehículos Off Road de Mercedes-Benz. «Nuestro vehículo off road de culto ha estado evolucionando ya casi por 40 años, sin dejar en el camino su carácter ni sus valores esenciales. Su ADN es más fuerte que el tiempo y más duradero que cualquier moda. El cubo expresa esto de una manera asombrosa», completó.

El 280 GE de 1979 fue encerrado en el bloque en una posición dinámica. Da la impresión que ha sido engullido por la resina sintética en el momento en que demostraba todos sus saberes en el off road, su hábitat natural, donde fue «capturado» -de la misma manera que se realiza hace millones de años con los insectos-. El bloque mide 5,5 metros de largo, 2,55 de ancho y 3,10 de alto y llevó 90 días hacerlo utilizando 44,4 toneladas de resina. Durante este proceso, cada día el cubo creció a un ritmo de tres centímetros en altura. Luego de su exhibición en el Salón de Detroit, el bloque será exhibido en otros mercados donde se lanzará el nuevo Clase G.
